EBooks at Bowie State

This guide provides instructions and tips on how to find and use e-Books in Bowie's Thurgood Marshall Library collection.

How to download ProQuest eBooks

**Alert: Downloading will not work on public computers on the Bowie campus. Use the "Read Online" option to read the book on these computers.**

**Alert: Have you installed Adobe Digital Editions (ADE)?  Did you create an Adobe ID?  You must first install the FREE software ADE before you can download an e-book from the EBL e-book collection. Although you do not have to create an Adobe ID (also FREE), it is necessary to have one if you want your book to be available to you on more than one of your electronic devices (laptop, smartphone, tablet). Go back to the main menu tab "Downloading E-books" for details and links.

1) Select a book title

When looking at an e-book record on the EBL webpages, begin by selecting the link "Read this book" below the description of the title you want.

2) Initiate Download

The book contents are in a column on the far left of the screen.  To the right of the list of contents are a series of tabs. Find and click on the “Download” tab/link.

3) One more step is required before the book is actually downloaded.

  • If you have not installed the FREE Adobe Digital Editions (ADE) software, click on the link and follow the instructions provided on the Adobe Digital Editions site to download and install.
  • Select the loan length
  • Select preferred format (PDF or ePUB)
  • Click on the final 'Download' button.
