Ethnography Scholars: Exploring West Baltimore is one of four 2014-2015 Bowie State Scholar’s Studio Learning Communities. This guide is developed to provide links to library and online resources as well as visual ethnography video examples.

The primary focus of this community is on understanding the rich and complex diversity of the urban way of life in American society.  Members of the group will all be taking the same complementary course sections in Public Speaking, Freshman Seminar, and Sociology 101.

Students in this learning community will learn how to work collaboratively in teams to conduct visual ethnography research during field trips to West Baltimore neighborhoods.

They will apply sociological theories, concepts, and research methodologies to this study and they will use principles of communication and public speaking throughout the process to enhance their own learning and to share their knowledge and insights with others.
