Expository Writing sets forth the meaning of something. --Oxford English Dictionary
Greek philosopher Aristotle (384 BCE- 322 BCE) used rhetorical methods are still used today:
Logos, use words to create thoughts in the reader's mind, use logic to create principles, thus making an argument and conclusion that provides meaning to the reader long term.
Pathos, use words to create emotions in the reader's heart, creating deeper understanding and meaning by using rhetorical tools to create empathy.
Ethos, use words show that the meaning you are sharing is worth adopting, the character and personality you share in your writing shows that you are credible, knowledgeable and are balanced between passion and caution.
