As a Graduate Student, you will dive deep into topics that interest you. The librarians at the Thurgood Marshall Library are ready to help you.

Research Help

You can expect the research librarian, to assist graduate students

  • to find journal articles
  • to find books
  • to provide advice on how to perform research. 

Request Materials

If you request journal articles or book chapters, they will be emailed to you. Remember to download the article or book chapter because they are on loan and disappear at the end of the loan period.

If you request a book, it will be sent to the Circulation/Reserves desk at Bowie State University the Thurgood Marshall Library.  You will pick it up there.

Steps for Requesting Journal Articles

1. Log in to your Illiad account

Username is the Lib# (14 digits) on the lower right of the bulldog card. 

Password is your last name.

The first time you log-in click First Time Users and complete the registration form.

Leave this window open.

2. Go to licensed content for Gratuate Students 

3.Login to BSU Discovery using SSO you email address and password.

4.Search BSU Discovery

To the right of the search box use the down arrow to select Articles &More.

Enter your search the sample search is Educational Leadership AND middle school

5.Now refine your results on the left and select Expand My Results

By doing this you are searching the library community holdings going beyond Bowie State and Beyond Maryland Higher Education.

The Illiad form autopopulates and interlibraryloans will be emailed to you, download them because the articles disapear at the end of the load period.

Citation Tools

In Word, 

Go to Home

Click Add-ins on the far right (it looks like a red window.

Search for RCM (Refworks Citation Manager)

Add.

Now when you open Word RCM appears after help

Click on it twice and open a right sidebar.

You will be able to add citations without typing author's last name.

SPSS is a statistical software suite developed by IBM for data management, advanced analytics, multivariate analysis, business intelligence, and criminal investigation.

SPSS is loaded on 14 PCs in the Thurgood Marshall Library.

 

Also, you may request that SPSS be loaded on any PC or Laptop with a Bowie State University Property Tag by contacting DoIT .

Teaching and Instruction

Our new Xerox Photocopier

Thurgood Marshall Library has support resources for Graduate Students such as a black & white printer and a scanner.

Visit the Circulation Desk for assistance. 

 

Signing In When off Campus

Go to Bowie State University Home Page, Click on the work Library on the top ribbon.

Click BSU Discovery

Use Single sign-on (SSO)OR your Bowie State email and password to access the features of BSU Discovery

Also, when using Google Scholar be certain to let Google Scholar know who you are. 

By adding a profile that includes your Bowie State Email Address, you will have direct access to journals and eBooks that we have licensed for your use.

 

Faculty Librarian's Office

Librarians are available to work with you on group research projects.  This room is on the first floor of the library. There is WI-FI here for students. The library website is written to work with handheld devices of all kinds.

This graduate studies room (Provided by the Graduate Resource Center) is on the main floor of the library. Two presentation practice booths, big screen with Internet connection. WI-FI for students. A great place to meet faculty, students, and writing support.

Study Carrels seating 2-3 people may be reserved at the Circulation Desk. 14 carrels are located on the second floor and three carrels on the first floor.
