News story from WBAL-TV 11 Baltimore overview:  "Book bans are not new to the U.S., but in the past year, they have increased at an alarming rate, according to opponents who call it a crisis. "We're standing strong for freedom in America today," said Maryland Rep. Jamie Raskin, D-District 8. A group of lawmakers teamed up in Washington, D.C., to send a message: stop banning books. They called out book bans and banners, with Raskin leading the charge."

News story from ABC 10 overview: Effective immediately, California schools are no longer allowed to ban books after Governor Gavin Newsom signed Assembly Bill 1078 into law. Due to the bill's urgency clause, schools and parents are now scrambling to try and be in compliance, and it has some parents concerned about their child's education.
