English 100 - Interactive Writing. Materials and resources for the review of basic English grammar, mechanics, paragraph writing, and an introduction to college-level writing.

Student Learning Outcomes

Interactive Writing reviews basic English concepts and introduces college-level writing with an emphasis on basic grammar and mechanics and paragraph writing. 

By the end of the course you should be able to:

1. Describe and apply the four steps of the writing process;

2. Write grammatically correct simple, compound, complex, and compound-complex sentences and avoid common sentence problems;

3. Apply the proper use of verbs, nouns, pronouns, modifiers and punctuation;

4.  Apply the proper use of spelling and diction;

5. Demonstrate mastery of grammar and mechanics;

6. Identify parts of a paragraph and differentiate between the paragraph pattern types;

7. Structure well-developed paragraphs with topic sentences and supporting sentences using cause and effect, classification-division, comparison and contrast, definition, process, and persuasion/argument patterns;

8. Compose in standard written American English/ edited written English;

9. Use basic technology to improve writing and critical thinking skills;

10. Demonstrate mastery of grammatical skills concepts on a Common Midterm Examination; and 

11. Demonstrate mastery of writing skills concepts on a Common Final Examination.
