Databases and journals: What's the difference?

A journal is a scholarly or academic magazine that is published in a regular cycle – 

A journal may be published in print, electronically, or both every month, once a year, four times a year, etc. Because of this characteristic, it is often described as a "serial" or "periodical."

A database is an organized, searchable, and retrievable collection of electronically accessible nformation.  

The Thurgood Marshall Library provides a subscription to over 70 databases for its students, faculty, and staff. These databases contain thousands of articles published by scholarly or peer-reviewed journals as well as material from other types of sources - newspapers, trade journals, conference papers, and even images.
